My Personal Statement
I believe that children are our future and that every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. As a teacher I will help to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist students in discovering who they are, so that they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. I envision a world where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences between us; the reason why life is beautiful and the history of it captivating.
As a teacher it is my responsibility to teach students well so that they can lead the way to the future. Every classroom presents a group of unique and diverse learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. My role as a teacher is to give children the tools they need to help make their gardens of knowledge grow. To accomplish this goal, I will teach to the needs of each child so that all learners can feel successful. I will present the curriculum in a way that involves the interests of my students and makes learning relevant to life. I will incorporate themes, integrated units, projects, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning in order to make my students active learners. Finally, I will tie learning into the world community so that students can become caring, active, and productive members of society.
My classroom will be a caring, safe, and fair-minded environment that will be the setting for students to blossom and grow as individuals. Students will become responsible members of my classroom through my implementation of strategies that will promote positive discipline and democratic principles. In showing students how to become responsible for themselves and their learning, I am giving them the tools they need to become successful in life, and to believe in themselves.
Teaching is a lifelong learning process of learning about new philosophies, new strategies, learning from the parents and community, learning from colleagues, and especially learning from the students. My students have taught me to open my mind and my heart to the joys, the innocence, and the diversity of ideas in the world. Because of this, I will never forget how to smile with the new, cherish the old, and laugh with my students.
